On Saturday, August 22, 2026, the Centre of Excellence for Non-Communicable Diseases and Nutrition (CNCDN), BRAC James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, with support from the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) organized an interactive and insightful workshop on “Regulatory Approaches to Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Prevention and Control”. The session was conducted by Prof. Malay Kanti Mridha, Director, Center for Non-communicable Diseases and Nutrition, Deputy Dean, BRAC James P Grant School of Public Heath, Brac University.

Led by Assistant Professor Ms. Ferdousi Begum from the Department of Law and Associate Professor Mr. Sabuktagin Rahman from the Department of Public Health, four students represented the American International University-Bangladesh in the workshop among which two students are from the Department of Law and two students are from the Department of Public Health. The workshop began with a welcome and ice-breaking session facilitated by Dr. Meghna Chakravartty, followed by an academic session brought together perspectives from public health, medical education, and law By Prof. Malay Kanti Mridha and Md. Mostafa Hosain.

The workshop was held from 09:30 AM to 5:00 PM and was designed for a small group of 40 students, to explore the intersection of law, public health, regulation, and NCD prevention. It focuses on examining how legal and regulatory mechanisms can contribute to the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases to protect public health. It was designed to review the content of the curriculum within Master of Public Health (MPH) and LLB and LLM programmes to explore the potential integration of NCD prevention through legal and regulatory approaches and assess it through feedback from the group of students who participated in it. Such an interdisciplinary approach can help develop a stronger understanding of the relationship between public health policy, legislation, regulation, and disease prevention, while equipping future legal and public health professionals with the knowledge required to address NCD-related challenges through regulatory interventions.
